Rotary Club of Malden
Minutes of August 25, 2010 Meeting
President Mark Golub presided
Visiting Rotarians: Jeff Robinson from the Melrose club
Guests: Ron Eyers, former Club Secretary, was a guest of Carl Rowe. Ken Demers was a guest of Robin Jones.
President Mark returned after a two week hiatus due to his vacation. During his absence president elect Dan Hoffenberg filled in nicely and ran two of the more “streamlined’ meetings, which was somewhat refreshing during the summer doldrums sans speakers.
President Mark recognized our visiting Rotarian Jeff and our guests.
Mark then talked about an important upcoming meeting, which should not be missed; on October 20th our new District Governor Steve May will be speaking before the club. Please make every effort to attend this important meeting.
Happy and Sad dollars were collected by our Auxiliary Sergeant-At-Arms, Carl Rowe. The newsletter is pleased to announce a new feature, “Happy or Sad Dollar of the Week,” which will be given to the most memorable Happy or Sad dollar of the week. This week’s winner is Carl Rowe…Carl gave a Happy Dollar for buying Ron Eyers lunch. We were happy to have Ron back for a visit and even happier of Carl’s generosity.
Brian then proceeded to collect for Polio Plus
President Mark then began the proceedings for the installation of our newest member Robin Jones. Robin came to the podium and was inducted in concert with the club and pledged to the objective of “Service Above Self” through activities in the Four Avenues of Service. Let us once again congratulate Robin and welcome her into Malden Rotary.
Announcements: We all neglected to celebrate David Hart’s 40th birthday, which was the date of our meeting August 25th. Happy Birthday David.
In a bit of coincidence David H won the raffle.
The meeting adjourned at 1:55.
Respectfully Submitted,
David D’Arcangelo
Secretary
NOTE: Please make your humble Secretary aware of any items that you do, or do not, want placed into this newsletter. This is your newsletter and we want it to reflect the membership’s wants, needs and desires.
PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Dear fellow and sister Malden Rotarians:
Here is the first "President's Corner" article that will be included in each issue of our Newsletter. Its purpose will be to share with you news of interest from the President's perpective. I hope you will like this addition. The important item that members must bring to the next meeting will be included to avoid a fine!!
There will be a District 7930 "Foundation/Membership" Forum on Thursday, September 30th, at the Crowne Plaza (formerly the Sheraton Ferncroft) in Danvers from 3:00-9:00 pm. The guest speaker will be RI Director Ken Grabeau. The main issues discussed will be Foundation and Membership concerns. Besides the President and President-elect, the Foundation and Membership chair and committees are invited along with prospective members. It should be very interesting, and those of us who attend should have significant details to report on. This is a free event for all attendees from our Club (we will pick up the tab).
I look forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting (September 1st), which will include qualification talks. Be sure to wear your Rotary pin or beware the consequences!!
Yours in Rotary,
Mark
