Good Afternoon,
Hope everyone is having a nice week so far. Only 5 days left until Tom Brady and his friends give payback to the Giants...hopefully?
For those wondering about the outcome of our first attempt at Malden Library Trivia, let's just say; when we left the room, everyone knew the members of Malden Rotary. While we proved that we are not quite ready for jeopardy, we certainly had the most fun. We did not come in last, but it appears we owe our friends at Kiwanis $100.00? Agent Lawhorne would be happy to tell you all about the evening.. As for Professor Solano, you may want to bring your checkbook to Rotary tomorrow just in case! :-) (Although he did fine himself $20.00 at one point as well)
Overall, we had a great night Paul did a great job as trivia master and Priscilla did a great job filling in for Rick in Round One.
We continue to have weekly meetings and email sessions to plan this years Malden Rotary Road Race. The date/time is confirmed for Saturday, March 24th with registration beginning at 10:30am. The start time of the 10K race will be 11:30 with the 5K race starting at Noon. As usual, we will be holding our post-race celebration and awards ceremony at Dockside Restaurant. Dockside is graciously donating food to all of our runners ( A Pasta/Pizza Combo) and will have $2.00 draft beer available for our runners. I encourage everyone to stick around after the race and support the Dockside as they have supported us for many years.
The Board has voted on and unanimously approved membership for John Matheson as the newest member of the Malden Rotary Club. The hope was to initiate John as a member at tomorrow's meeting, however Membership packets are in the mail from Rotary International as we speak. If they do not arrive in time for the meeting tomorrow, we will do his official induction at the meeting on February 8th. John is a local attorney, new City Councillor in Malden and on the Board of Bread of Life. He should make a great addition to Malden Rotary.
Tomorrow's Speaker is State Senator Katherine Clark. Katherine was sworn in in January 2011 and will be speaking about her role as a Senator and priorities for 2012. We had a very nice turn out last week, so hopefully we can keep the momentum rolling and give the Senator a great audience.
Upcoming Speakers include:
2/8 - Malden Reads
2/15 - Joe Piantedosi, Piantedosi Baking Co.
2/22 - Open
2/29 - Ted Coates (Malden Chamber of Commerce)
3/7 - Former Boxing Champion Tony DeMarco
3/14 - Loretta Kemp (The work of Tri-Cap)
As well, our monthly MATV Program, "Malden Rotary in the Community" with host Mark Golub is booked with guests through June 2012.
Have a great evening! See you tomorrow.
Dan
